I offer one-handed and two-handed spey classes for everyone from beginner to advanced.
I also offer traditional one-handed spey courses.
You can find the full details at ezspey.com
Introductory course
The introductory course helps you to understand the basics of spey throwing, to deepen your technique with the C-Cast and to understand the Single Spey. At the end of the course, I show and let you try the other casts. This introduction enables anglers who prefer to learn on their own to quickly understand the basics and then progress at their own pace. After this introduction, you’ll be able to understand the videos better and after a few practice sessions on your own, you’ll be able to reasonably think about going spey fishing.
- anchoring and switch cast
- Roll cast
- C-Cast
- Single spey
- introduction to other casts.
The full course is divided into two parts. The first, lasting three hours (four hours for two people), covers the basics and leaves out the advanced casts. The second course allows you to review the basics and, with the benefit of hindsight, make much faster progress on the advanced throws. You still won’t be able to make a 100′ spey cast, but you’ll definitely be able to make some nice fishing casts.
The reason I’m only doing 3 hours for the first session is that I’ve realized that since the movements are all new, beginners don’t benefit from the fourth hour. On the other hand, with two anglers, one can rest while the other continues, and both benefit from the advice.
Full course:
- 1st session
- Roll cast
- anchoring and switch cast
- C-Cast
- Single spey
- change of direction
- backhand throw
- 2nd session
- C-Cast and Single spey
- Double spey
- other shots
Hourly and advanced courses
For all other courses, I’m at your disposal to discuss any subject you’d like to learn more about.
Equipment
I have several two-handed rods of different brands and for different lines, as well as switch rods. I have several lines for each rod and for different styles, traditional casting, modern casting or even skagit.
Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own rod.
For one-handed rods, your usual rod will do. There’s absolutely no need to buy a special line (“shooting head”), a simple WF (weight forward) line is perfectly suitable. I bring extra rods so you can try out the technique with softer rods.
However, if you don’t have your own waders, you’ll need to bring your own. You can rent them from ZEC.
